This is South Wales --A CONVICTED killer who escaped from his custody cell using a shoelace is wanted by police.
James William Stevenson (left), from the Townhill area of Swansea, is wanted in connection with a serious assault which occurred at 1.45am on Thursday in the Penlan area.
The 33-year-old was previously jailed for the manslaughter of Gorseinon man Paul Mainwaring back in 2002.
He killed the 46-year-old epileptic by sticking newspaper in his mouth and taping over it.
Mr Mainwaring's body was later dumped in the River Tawe.
He escaped from a Dorset prison where he was being held for the manslaughter in 2005.
Four years later Stevenson went on the run for more than two weeks after fleeing from his cell at Swansea's Guildhall, minutes after he was sentenced to five years in prison for possessing a shotgun.
He was given an additional two years on his sentence after he inserted a shoelace into the cell door and used it to pull back a spring-loaded latch.
He then climbed 28ft over razor wire protecting the inner courtyard and gained access to a flat roof.
He was on the run for two weeks but despite an offer of a £5,000 reward for information and a manhunt which included 40 officers, he handed himself in.
Detective Sergeant David Butt of Swansea CID said: "We are very keen to locate Stevenson, and anyone who knows where he is should contact the police as soon as possible.
"Members of the public should not approach him but report any information straight- away."
Stevenson is described as 5ft 10in, of medium build, with short brown hair and hazel eyes.
