THE heartbroken mother of Rebecca Day has paid tribute to her "beautiful daughter" after it emerged the man arrested on suspicion of her murder will not face charges. Rebecca, 23, was found critically injured at her flat in west Hull just after Christmas but died later at Hull Royal Infirmary.
Now, police have confirmed the man arrested on suspicion of murder will not face any charges as they do not believe there were any suspicious circumstances surrounding her death.
Rebecca's mother Michelle Coates said: "I am going to miss my beautiful daughter beyond words. I'm so very proud of everything she achieved.
"She was my daughter and my best friend and my love for her will stay in my heart and soul forever.
"I don't know what I am going to do without her."
Rebecca's funeral is taking place on Monday at the Eastern Cemetery in Preston Road, east Hull, close to where she grew up.
Police were called to her flat in Peel Place, off Spring Bank, in the early hours of December 29, where they found her suffering from serious injuries.
She died at Hull Royal Infirmary the following day.
A 27-year-old man who was at the flat was arrested on suspicion of murder and later released on bail. Police said he and Rebecca knew each other. He has now been released unconditionally.
Mrs Coates said she and the rest of the family have been overwhelmed by the support they have received since her death.
In a statement, the family said: "We would like to thank the hospital staff, especially the doctors and nurses on the high dependency unit, for their compassion and support.
"They worked so hard to save Rebecca but it wasn't meant to be.
"We would like to thank the police for their hard work and our admiration goes out to them all. Our liaison officers have been amazing. They have made this very sad time more bearable with their overwhelming compassion and their support has been invaluable to us all.
"We would like to thank everyone for their kind messages of sympathy."
An inquest into Rebecca's death was opened last week and adjourned to a later date. It heard a post-mortem examination had been carried out by a Home Office pathologist but a cause of death could not be confirmed.
Police said the post mortem had been "inconclusive". The coroner was told there are no ongoing investigations into criminality surrounding her death, despite the arrest of the 27-year-old man.
A spokesman for Humberside Polica said: "The police bail has been cancelled and the man has been released unconditionally."
Neighbours reported hearing Rebecca screaming and banging on windows for help before police were called to her flat at 1.22am on December 29.
Police cordoned off the flat while they carried out investigations into how she died.
Rebecca had moved into her Peel Place flat about two years ago and worked as a waitress at The Omelette restaurant in Albion Street, city centre.
Her funeral will take place at 2pm on Monday.
