![UPDATE: Man hit by car on M23 may have been running from police after fleeing scene of crash in East Grinstead]()
This is Sussex -- THE MAN critically injured after being hit by traffic while running across the M23 may have been running from police after fleeing the scene of a collision in East Grinstead, the News understands. The 19-year-old man was struck by at least two cars as he attempted to cross the motorway between junctions 11 (Pease Pottage) and 10 (Crawley) at 11.49am. A 4x4 vehicle is understood to have hit a parked car in East Grinstead at about 11.30am and the driver fled the scene. The 4x4 was later abandoned and the driver is reported to have made off on foot towards the M23. A Sussex Police spokesman confirmed there had been a collision in East Grinstead shortly before the incident on the M23 and that the two are being linked. Police logs confirm the driver is thought to have fled the scene of the East Grinstead collision and abandoned the 4x4 he had been driving before making off on foot. However the spokesman said the full circumstances are still being looked into and he could not provide any additional information at this stage. An eyewitness told Crawley News she had seen a police officer emerge on the opposite side of the carriageway to which the man was running from, just seconds after he was hit. The 19-year-old was airlifted to hospital in London with life-threatening head injuries.
