Police warning to keep items out of sight This is Somerset --

Police are warning householders not to leave valuable items where they can be seen through a window following a spate of break-ins.

Police have already stepped up their patrols in response to eight burglaries in the past five days in the Radstock area. These have mostly taken place overnight but a couple have occurred during the day.

In most cases burglars have got in by forcing open doors and windows.

They have taken property stolen including a handbag and keys, jewellery and computer equipment, motorcross bike and tools.

Radstock police sergeant Geoff Cannon said: "There have been a number of burglaries in recent days which we are aware of and responding to.

"We are conducting high-visibility patrols in the area and will be proactively stopping and checking any people or vehicles seen in suspicious circumstances.

"I would remind people to make sure they are leaving their homes secure and that wherever possible valuable items are left where they can't be seen through windows.

"Consider using motion-activated security lighting and making sure there are no concealed parts of your garden where offenders could work unseen."

If you see someone acting suspiciously contact the police straight away. If you know who is committing these burglaries call the police on the non-emergency number 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers in confidence on 0800 555111. They never ask your name or trace your call. Reported by This is 4 hours ago.
