THREE teenagers who burned new play equipment in Shepton Mallet were trying to set fire to a jelly bean, police said. The boys, aged 13, 14 and 17, started a fire on April 14 at the playing fields at Queen's Road on the Ridgeway estate at about 7.30pm. The trio set fire to the rubber matting underneath one of the swings. They were using a lighter to try and set fire to a jelly bean. The fire then burned the new equipment. Mendip District Council put the equipment up in the park early last year....
