Appeal following crime spate - Saltash
Police in East Cornwall are appealing for information and assistance following a spate of crime in Saltash over the weekend.
Officers are investigating a number of burglaries and theft of vehicles which commenced with the theft of a distinctive yellow Vauxhall Vivaro van from a lay-by in New Road, Saltash during the afternoon of Thursday 5^th November. The van had ladders on its roof when taken and noticeable motifs on its front and rear.
It is thought to have remained in the Saltash area until found in St Georges Road behind the Rodney Public House at 4.30am on Monday 9^th November, and investigating officers suspect that it was used in the commission of the burglaries.
One of the reported burglaries occurred in New Road, overnight on Friday 6^th November and Saturday 7^th November close to where the vehicle was stolen.
The property was under construction and expensive power tools were stolen.
Also, over the weekend, a burglary at a commercial premises in Gilston Road was committed whereby entry was gained by smashing a window an following an untidy search a number of mobile phones and car keys were stolen.
At around 4.00am on Monday morning, 9^th November a white Citroen C1 car was stolen in a house burglary in the Hillside Avenue area of the town and a short while later an attempt was made to break into a jewellers shop on Fore Street, Saltash.
However no entry was gained and the offenders made off following the activation of an alarm
Shortly afterwards the stolen Citroen was found together with the stolen yellow Vauxhall van in St Georges Road and both were recovered for a forensic examination.
Stolen property from the burglaries was recovered from the van, along with a set of golf clubs reported stolen from a garage in that same area.
Other unidentified property was recovered including a 19 inch TV and a gents yellow metal watch (pictured) in its case.
The keys to the van and the Citroen have not been recovered and are may have been discarded between St Georges Road and Burraton Crossroads.
A man in his thirties was arrested in the vicinity of Burraton crossroads in connection with these crimes and has since been released on police bail until January pending further police enquiries.
Officers would like to hear from anyone who recognises the watch or has not to date reported a burglary over the weekend in the Saltash area.
